The Wily Old Bird Trophy

The Wily Old Bird Trophy is awarded annually and is a personal presentation by the CFI to someone who has displayed a particular degree of ingenuity, imagination, tenacity, determination or cunning.

The trophy, skilfully executed in clay depicting a Wily Old Bird, was presented by Ken Andrews.

In 2024, it was awarded to Sally Hender - "Jill reminds me of my first head teacher, always seemed to be there when I was naughty, from teasing girls, stealing extra roast potatoes or painting my friends face with boot polish! Jill has a knack for catching me out nowadays, leaving for early lunch when on duty, late coming back from said lunch, posting notes on the wrong groups, flying with the incorrect pilot on the list. You kinda get the idea! But just like my dear old headmistress she is always there to help me especially with my spelling, grammar and maths! A well deserved and well overdue award!"wily_old_bird_trophy
