Grant making policy for the DSGC Charitable Trust

What the Trustees will make grants for:

For the furtherance of education in gliding for the public benefit.

Who can apply for a grant:

Any member of the public, who is at least three months into the start of their gliding training,
where a clear target in their training can be identified, will be eligible to apply for financial
assistance. Any Gliding related organisation wanting assistance in providing the education of
gliding to members of the public may apply.

How to apply:

Applications should be made direct to the Trustees in writing, using the formal application form (pdf).

How the Trustees decide who to give a grant to:

All three Trustees will decide using careful consideration, it must always be to further specific
skills or capabilities, and not simply to cover the cost of local and routine flying expenses, and the applicant must show commitment to the activity of gliding. Application’s from Gliding
organisations must show how the grant will aid in the provision of education for gliding members.

How much they will award:

Grants for individuals will be limited to the equivalent cost of three 4000ft aerotows per year.
Amounts for organisations and larger projects can be variable and will limited to 50% of the total project cost, and not more than 50% of the total Trust fund, during a financial year. All awards will be one off grants in any financial year, no continual funding will be approved. For larger grants of £1000 or more, a more detailed project plan will be requird which may include a longer time frame.

How will the Trust follow up:

To ensure the funds have been used for the purposes for which they were intended, six months following a grant award, the Trust will obtain confirmation from the beneficiary as to how they have benefited from the financial award, and how their gliding training and skills have benefited, and any specific achievements. If the grant has not been spent on gliding or the applicant has left the sport, within 6 months of the award, the grant should be repaid to the Trust.

Promoting the Trust

The trustees will promote the Charitable Trust and it’s grant making activities and donation
opportunities through the local Gliding Clubs website, direct social marketing, including club
member communications, and fundraising activities.
